J.T. Realmuto concedes lack of judgment in Phillies loss to Dodgers

The Philadelphia Phillies lost 2-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers after a baserunning error in the ninth inning turned a promising rally into a game-ending double play.

With runners on second and third and one out, J.T. Realmuto stood at second base while Justin Crawford occupied third. Brandon Marsh tapped a ball to Max Muncy at third, who threw home to tag out Crawford before throwing to second.

Realmuto wandered back toward second and was tagged out on the play. "Just a bad baserunning play, really," Realmuto said after the game. "We were going on seeing it through there, and once Craw gets in the rundown and I'm on third base, there's no reason for me to go back to second. Just a lack of judgment. You can't make two outs on that play."

The Phillies, who trail the Braves by three games in the NL East, sit 3½ games ahead in the wild-card race. The Dodgers lead the NL West by 11½ games.

Realmuto noted that both teams possess talent and that games often turn on small details.
