Jack Whitaker rides dressage champion Jagerbomb at clinic demo

Showjumper Jack Whitaker took the reins of dressage star Jagerbomb during a demonstration at Sheffield Equine Clinic’s opening day. Olympic bronze medallist and World Cup Final winner Jagerbomb performed movements including passage and flying changes under Whitaker’s guidance. Becky Moody, Jagerbomb’s regular rider, observed and provided instructions throughout the session.

The event paired a top showjumper with a leading dressage horse. Whitaker admitted feeling nervous before mounting, noting the different saddle and movement compared to his usual experience. He completed sitting trot, extended trot, passage, and canter work within minutes.

Whitaker described the passage as the easiest element, calling the sensation of floating while the horse moved beneath him a cool feeling. He found the flying changes more challenging and noted the different power and core strength required from the dressage horse.

Moody praised Whitaker’s performance on the passage and highlighted the shared training principles of adjustability and responsiveness between the disciplines. She said the session provided useful feedback on Jagerbomb’s straightness and alignment.

Whitaker expressed gratitude for the opportunity and noted that flatwork training forms part of his regular preparation, though it differs from full dressage work.
