Jerry Bruckheimer and Sir Richard Taylor to receive VES Awards honors

Filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer and Wētā Workshop co-founder Sir Richard Taylor will be honored at the 24th annual Visual Effects Society Awards. Bruckheimer is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Taylor will get the Visionary Award. The gala is scheduled for February 25 at The Beverly Hilton, with comedians Randy and Jason Sklar as hosts.

The Visual Effects Society announced on January 6 that Jerry Bruckheimer will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his extensive career producing blockbusters that heavily feature visual effects. His notable credits include the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, F1: The Movie, Top Gun, Flashdance, Beverly Hills Cop, Remember the Titans, the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation franchise, the Amazing Race franchise, and Top Gun: Maverick. These projects have showcased innovative use of VFX in both film and television.

Sir Richard Taylor, co-founder and chief creative officer of Wētā Workshop, will receive the Visionary Award for his pioneering contributions to the industry. Wētā has delivered design and physical effects for major films such as the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, the Avatar trilogies, the Chronicles of Narnia franchise, King Kong, District 9, the Thor series, Black Panther, and Alien: Romulus. The award recognizes individuals who have consistently advanced the art and science of visual effects.

The awards ceremony, dedicated to celebrating exceptional achievements in visual effects, will take place on February 25 at The Beverly Hilton. Actor-comedians Randy and Jason Sklar are returning to host the event. VES Board Chair Kim Davidson stated, “The VES Awards are our marquee event, honoring exceptional creative achievement and recognized as one of the entertainment industry’s most prestigious celebrations. We’re immensely appreciative of the respective and sustained industry contributions of Jerry Bruckheimer and Sir Richard Taylor and look forward to celebrating their remarkable achievements at this year’s awards ceremony. We’re also thrilled to welcome back the Sklar Brothers, who bring a healthy dose of levity while honoring the talent and craft of visual effects.”

Nominees for the awards will be revealed on January 13.
