Kashus Culpepper, the Grammy Artist to Watch, has unveiled his latest single 'Cherry Rose,' a piano ballad from his upcoming debut album Act I. The track evokes warm reminiscences and working-class stories, recorded at the historic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Culpepper's sandpaper voice continues to draw acclaim from music icons like Elton John and John Mayer.
Kashus Culpepper's voice carries the essence of Southern evenings, reminiscent of a porch in Alabama as the sun sets. His new single, 'Cherry Rose,' released on January 10, 2026, is a sweeping piano ballad that highlights tender emotions without dipping into sadness. It feels like browsing old photos with a genuine smile, washing over listeners with feel-good warmth.
The song is the lead from Culpepper's debut album Act I, scheduled for release on January 23, 2026. As an Alabama native and former Navy serviceman who once performed covers at barrack bonfires, Culpepper has quickly risen, selling out headline shows even before his formal debut. Recorded at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, the track nods to its rich legacy. Culpepper chose the location for its ties to soul legends like Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett, as well as bands such as the Allman Brothers. "So much history between the soul giants of the world, like Aretha and Wilson Pickett, and then some of my favourite bands, like the Allman Brothers," he explains.
Co-written with Mikky Ekko, known for Rihanna's 'Stay,' and producer Brian Elmquist, 'Cherry Rose' weaves tales of everyday resilience. It portrays people "doing work, just to get by, because they have to," delivered in Culpepper's distinctive sandpaper growl. This style has earned high praise: Elton John called him "if Bill Withers made country music," while John Mayer deemed him "as good as it gets."
Act I promises collaborations with Sierra Ferrell and Marcus King, signaling a strong year ahead for Culpepper. He has upcoming tour dates with Eric Church and Wyatt Flores, expanding his reach to new audiences.
