President José Antonio Kast named five new Chilean ambassadors abroad on Wednesday. The appointments include Jaime Baeza to Canada, Germán Becker to the Dominican Republic, Harry Jürgensen to Austria, Christian Hodges-Nugent to the Czech Republic and Víctor Abujatum to Egypt.
All the new appointments have already received the respective agréments, according to the government. Becker is a civil engineer and former Renovación Nacional deputy who previously served as ambassador to Panama. Jürgensen, a member of the Republican Party, served as a deputy from 2018 to 2026 and participated in foreign relations committees.
The other three appointees have diplomatic career profiles. Hodges-Nugent holds a history degree and graduated from the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy, with prior experience as ambassador to Palestine. Abujatum, a public administrator, was serving as ambassador to the Czech Republic before this transfer.
Baeza holds a PhD in political science from the University of Essex and is an expert in international security. These designations bring the total number of ambassadors appointed by Kast to 29 in his first 98 days in office.
