Kentucky man charged with setting dogs on fire

A 37-year-old Louisville man faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening his wife and setting two dogs on fire during a confrontation over an affair.

Bobby Atkinson is accused of torture of a dog, cruelty to animals, menacing and terroristic threatening. The incident took place on Thursday at a home in the 900 block of Cecil Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky, according to an arrest citation. Police said the victim confronted Atkinson after learning another woman was in the home and possibly pregnant with his child. He allegedly threatened to kill her and later returned with a handgun, pacing and yelling while holding the weapon at his side. Atkinson reportedly told the victim, “If we didn't have a daughter together I'd shoot you and stand over you.” The woman left to obtain an emergency protective order and later returned to find both dogs burned. Seven had multiple wounds and burnt fur, while Brooklyn struggled to stand. Both animals were taken to Louisville Metro Animal Services for treatment. Atkinson was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 1.
