Laura Tomlinson pays tribute to late stallion Duval's Capri Sonne Jr

Top British dressage rider Laura Tomlinson has paid tribute to her stallion Duval's Capri Sonne Jr, who died aged 19 after a seven-year retirement.

The KWPN Rhodium son competed at international Grand Prix level until his career ended in 2019 at age 12 due to a heart murmur. Laura produced the horse from Small Tour to Grand Prix after her parents bought him in 2015.

Laura told Horse & Hound that Capri Sonne remained fit but stopped competing on veterinary advice. He enjoyed an unstressful life in the field with attention from the family.

The pair competed at CDIs including Aachen, Rotterdam, Hagen and Hickstead, posting scores over 70 percent at Grand Prix. Laura described him as talented with an easy temperament.

Capri Sonne died in the field a few weeks before July 2026, believed linked to his heart condition. Laura noted he had remained extremely well until then.
