Ao Tanaka scored a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser as Leeds United came from behind to draw 3-3 with Liverpool at Elland Road. Leeds started brightly, with Noah Okafor dragging a shot wide and Gabriel Gudmundsson firing over within the first four minutes. Liverpool grew into the game, nearly opening the scoring in the 17th minute when Cody Gakpo curled an effort onto the bar after a pass from Curtis Jones. Hugo Ekitike came close following work from Florian Wirtz, and Virgil van Dijk headed just over from a Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick in the 28th minute. Gakpo's deflected shot went inches wide as Liverpool dominated possession, while Leeds struggled to string passes together.
Second Half: Goals and Drama Unfold
The second half exploded into action early. Ekitike capitalised on a poor pass from Joe Rodon to score in the 48th minute, slipping the ball past Lucas Perri. Two minutes later, it was 2-0 as Ekitike challenged Perri for Conor Bradley's cross, with the ball ricocheting into the net.
Leeds responded after the 66th minute, with Alisson saving from Jayden Bogle. Perri then denied Gakpo, but Ibrahima Konate fouled Willy Gnonto, allowing Calvert-Lewin to convert a penalty. Anton Stach equalised soon after, sidestepping Jones to fire past Alisson.
Perri saved a van Dijk header, but Szoboszlai slotted home in the 80th minute from Ryan Gravenberch's pass to put Liverpool ahead. However, Leeds equalised in the 96th minute when Tanaka smashed home from Stach's corner at the far post. Alexander Isak glanced a header wide late on, but the home side held firm.
The draw boosts Leeds' survival hopes after their midweek win over Chelsea, while Liverpool's frustrations continue following their Sunderland stalemate.
