Lieutenant-Governor orders audit of Delhi schools for POCSO Act compliance

Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed a citywide audit of schools in Delhi to check compliance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The order follows a review meeting with senior officials on Tuesday.

The audit aims to identify gaps in child protection norms and ensure action against institutions that violate guidelines. Every school must maintain a dedicated Child Protection Committee that meets regularly.

Police have been asked to maintain a visible presence near schools and major student hubs. All women police stations must handle complaints related to crimes against women and children with greater sensitivity.

Authorities were instructed to observe July as Child Protection Month. This includes a month-long awareness campaign with training programmes for teachers, school staff and parents.

The Lieutenant-Governor emphasised a zero-tolerance approach towards harassment and molestation of women and children.
