Lorde voiced frustration with Spotify’s AI-generated song summaries on July 16. The singer posted on Instagram Stories about an inaccurate description for her track “Current Affairs.” She called for an opt-out option for artists.
Lorde shared a screenshot of the feature’s summary for “Current Affairs,” which wrongly linked the song to a stripping and water-pouring performance from her 2025 Ultrasound World Tour. The sequence actually occurs during “GRWM.”
In the post, Lorde wrote that the description was inaccurate and that reducing a song to an AI-generated meaning limits free interpretation. She tagged Spotify and said artists should be able to opt out.
Spotify launched the About the Song feature in February as a beta tool that pulls summaries from third-party sources. Lorde has previously criticized AI tools, including Meta’s AI glasses during a July 9 performance at Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival.
