LSU men's golf team finishes second at Puerto Rico Classic

The No. 2 LSU men's golf team concluded the Puerto Rico Classic with a second-place finish, shooting 37 under par over three rounds at the Grand Reserve Golf Course. They trailed only No. 1 Virginia, which won with a score of 55 under. Junior Noah McWilliams led LSU with a career-best 12 under par.

The Puerto Rico Classic took place over three days at the par-72, 7,152-yard Grand Reserve Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, marking the spring opener for several top teams. LSU posted a total score of 827, 37 under par, with 72 birdies, tying for the third-lowest team score in program history relative to par. This performance is the third time this season the Tigers have gone 30 under or better.

Junior Noah McWilliams highlighted the tournament, matching his career best with a 12-under 204 across rounds of 66, 70, and 68, finishing tied for eighth. He recorded 17 birdies, averaging 2.83 on par-3 holes and 3.83 on par-4 holes. Freshman Hudson Lawson made his debut in the lineup after senior Arni Sveinsson fell ill, delivering a standout 9-under 207 with rounds of 70, 67, and 70, including two eagles and a 4.17 average on par-5 holes, tying for 14th.

Senior Jay Mendell contributed a 7-under 209 (69-69-71) to tie for 23rd, while freshman Dan Hayes shot 6 under (69-69-72) with a tournament-high 18 birdies as an individual, tying for 29th. Senior Matty Dodd-Berry rounded out the lineup at 3 under 213 (73-67-73), tying for 42nd.

No. 1 Virginia dominated with a 55-under total (266-275-268). No. 18 Tennessee placed third at 36 under, followed by No. 14 Oklahoma in fourth at 33 under. Oklahoma's Summy and Maybank both posted top-10 individual finishes.

The event showcased strong play from the Tigers' revamped lineup, setting a positive tone for the spring season.
