"Today was one of those days where everything was stable", Åberg told HBO Max. He praised his irons: "My iron shots were very good". On the par-5 after hole 14, he saved par after a wayward drive.

On hole nine, his drive went right and struck a woman near the collarbone, but she did not appear seriously hurt. Åberg apologized and gave her a signed glove.

Competition is stiff with players like Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa. Fellow Swede Alex Norén shot two over par and trails far back.
