Magpie Games' Temeraire RPG triples funding goal on Kickstarter

Magpie Games launched its Temeraire RPG on Kickstarter, based on Naomi Novik's series of Napoleonic wars with dragons. The campaign exceeded triple its funding goal within the first hour, with a month remaining. The game allows players to create human and dragon characters in historical fantasy settings.

Magpie Games' Temeraire RPG, inspired by Naomi Novik's Temeraire series, went live on Kickstarter on February 24, 2026. The series reimagines the Napoleonic wars with dragons, exploring political machinations, romantic intrigues, and the inner lives of dragons.

The RPG supports 3-5 players, with one acting as gamemaster to portray the world and rules. Players create characters—both humans and dragons—embroiled in Napoleonic conflicts, balancing duties to country, unit, and each other against personal desires. As the official description states: “Temeraire: The Roleplaying Game is a way for you to experience the excitement of draconic battles and Regency era drama all for yourself! The tabletop roleplaying game supports approximately 3-5 players, with one taking on the role of a gamemaster responsible for portraying the world and adjudicating the rules, and the rest taking on the role of their own individual character. The game is designed for ongoing stories, as the characters pursue their dreams and face the consequences of their choices. In this game, you and your friends create characters—both humans and dragons!—who are embroiled in the conflicts of the Napoleonic age. Caught between their duties and their desires, your characters must balance their obligations to country, unit, and each other against their hearts’ strongest yearnings.”

The game uses the Aedana System, with free quickstart rules available for preview. Core rewards include the core rulebook, World of Wings supplement, GM screen, and custom world map. Backers within the first 60 hours receive a free illustrated cloth world map.

The campaign's rapid success suggests strong interest in stretch goals and exclusive rewards, though specifics depend on final funding.
