Man spots four orcas off Gothenburg coast

Richard Svensson saw four orcas while boating home to Fotö in the Gothenburg archipelago on Thursday afternoon.

Richard Svensson was boating home from work in Torslanda when he suddenly spotted four high dorsal fins in the water near Fotö.

He realized they were orcas, something he had never seen in his 50 years. One was particularly large and he believes it was a family.

Svensson came as close as about 20 meters and filmed the animals with his mobile camera. He thinks they were likely there to eat mackerel that are spawning in the area at this time of year.

Orcas are unusual along Swedish coasts.
