Marathon debuts Vault Breaker PvE mode in Season 2 update

Bungie released the experimental Vault Breaker PvE mode for Marathon on July 21 as part of the Season 2 mid-season update.

The time-limited roguelite mode runs for two weeks until August 4 on the Cryo Archive map. It supports solo, duos and trios play for any Runner level.

Players raid Vaults and fight UESC enemies while earning Vault Data to upgrade Sponsored Kits between runs. All gear except event rewards converts to Vault Data upon extraction and cannot transfer to standard modes.

The same currency can buy items for use outside Vault Breaker through the Vault Breaker Armory. A full PvE mode is planned for Season 3.

Marathon director Joe Ziegler departed Bungie on July 17 after the studio's recent layoffs that also affected the Marathon team.
