A measles case has been confirmed in Region Stockholm. Contact tracing is underway and all affected individuals have been informed, the region states. The highly contagious disease is rare in Sweden due to the childhood vaccination program.
Region Stockholm has confirmed a measles case in the area. In an email to Expressen, the region stated: “We can confirm a case of measles in Region Stockholm. Contact tracing is ongoing according to our routines. All affected have received information”.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that can cause serious conditions, with high mortality in infants. It is uncommon in Sweden as it is included in the national childhood vaccination program.
According to Folkhälsomyndigheten statistics, two cases have been confirmed earlier this year in Östergötland and one in Västra Götaland. This is the first confirmed case in Region Stockholm this year.
