Miami man charged with murdering girlfriend's brothers

Antwan Carter, 31, faces two counts of first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend's brothers dead in her Miami apartment. The brothers had arrived to protect her from his prior abuse. Police arrested Carter at the scene following the Saturday incident.

On Saturday, May 2, Jaheim Pierre, 23, and Gianni Pierre, 28, went to their sister's apartment in the 5300 block of Northwest 17th Avenue in Miami to check on her amid a history of domestic violence with her boyfriend, Antwan Carter, according to an arrest affidavit from the City of Miami Police Department. A scuffle broke out after an argument, prompting Carter to leave briefly and return enraged after she locked the door. Security video captured him shouting provocations before charging inside and opening fire with a 9 mm Glock 43, the affidavit states. Jaheim died at the scene, while Gianni succumbed at a hospital. Officers responding to gunfire found pools of blood near the couch and in a closet, along with spent casings and projectiles. Carter approached them, admitting, 'I'm the one. I have the firearm.' His girlfriend, bloodied and barefoot, fled the apartment, later telling police Carter blamed her, saying, 'See what you made me do?' while she urged him to leave. Carter claimed self-defense, saying the brothers squared up to fight again. He remained in custody without bond as of Monday.
