Michael Saylor opposes BIP-110 Bitcoin proposal

Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy, has publicly criticized Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 110, calling it a bad idea that risks undermining the network's neutrality.

Saylor posted 110 reasons on social media over the weekend opposing the proposal. He argued that BIP-110, which seeks a one-year soft fork to restrict arbitrary data on the blockchain, poses greater dangers than the spam it aims to address.

The proposal would introduce consensus limits on data payloads and lower the miner signaling threshold for upgrades from 95 percent to 55 percent. Saylor warned this change could lead to network splits and market uncertainty while setting a precedent for future censorship.

Strategy holds 843,775 BTC valued at 54.31 billion dollars as of Sunday. Saylor stated that fee markets and relay policies, rather than consensus alterations, should handle data issues to preserve Bitcoin as an open and permissionless system.

"Bitcoin does not need guardians of purity," Saylor asserted. "It needs guardians of neutrality."

Bitcoin has fallen sharply in recent days, with prices trading near $63,500 after dropping below $62,000 at times. Strategy sold 32 Bitcoin last week, its first such move in over three years, while chairman Michael Saylor attributed the decline to capital rotation into artificial intelligence.

A proposal to limit non-financial data on the Bitcoin blockchain is approaching its early August deadline with minimal backing from miners and nodes.

Bitcoin developers and industry figures are criticizing Paul Sztorc’s proposed eCash fork as a hazardous airdrop rather than a true fork. They highlight security risks from lacking replay protection and uneven distribution favoring custodians over individual holders. Critics argue it introduces unnecessary operational dangers and philosophical conflicts with Bitcoin’s principles.
