Michigan man convicted of first-degree murder in ex-girlfriend death

A Michigan man has been convicted of first-degree murder for strangling his former girlfriend more than five years ago. Matthew Lewinski, 42, was found guilty on Thursday after a trial that included testimony about the discovery of the victim's remains.

Lewinski killed Courtney Winters in December 2020 at a condo they once shared in Clinton Township. Prosecutors said the couple had broken up a month earlier when Winters visited and told him about an abortion, leading to an argument that turned physical. Lewinski strangled her in an armchair before moving the body to the basement, where it remained until July 2021.
