Mixxx 2.5.4 improves support for various DJ controllers

The open-source DJ software Mixxx has released version 2.5.4, focusing on enhanced controller compatibility and bug fixes. This update arrives more than three months after the previous version and introduces support for new operating systems. Users can now download it via Flatpak or compile from source.

Mixxx 2.5.4, the latest stable release of the open-source virtual DJ application, enables users to create and perform live mixes using digital music files. Released on December 14, 2025, this version addresses several hardware compatibility issues that have been reported by the community.

Key improvements include better support for the Korg KAOSS DJ controller, where scratching with the left wheel has been fixed. Similarly, the Numark NS6II controller benefits from a correction to a typo in the NS6II.PadMode. For Pioneer DJ CDJ series controllers, the update resolves broken initialization problems. The Traktor S4 MK3 now handles scratch mode properly, preventing it from stopping when the platter is held. Additionally, the Reloop Beatmix 2 controller fixes an issue with overriding persisted FX routing.

Beyond hardware, the release disables scratching immediately upon turning off Vinyl Mode. It also adds icons for dark hotcue loops in the LateNight PaleMoon skin, corrects the color of effect toggle buttons in the LateNight skin, and restores the VU meter mini backpath in the Tango skin. Sampler sync button behavior has been improved and unified across all skins.

On the software side, Mixxx 2.5.4 adds compatibility with the upcoming Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, codenamed “Resolute Raccoon.” Building from sources is enhanced for FLAC 1.5 and Qt 6.10, while support for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS “Noble Numbat” sees improvements. Various components receive tweaks, including the playlist, track view header, library scanner, sidebar, search, Analyze view, decks, waveforms, sound hardware, and broadcast features. The Traktor and Rekordbox collection importer is fixed, along with some Rekordbox USB issues.

Developers and users can access the full release notes for details. Installation options include Flatpak from Flathub, source tarballs for compilation, or packages from distribution repositories.
