Montana mother accused of suffocating 5-year-old son

A Montana woman has been charged with deliberate homicide after allegedly suffocating her 5-year-old son with a plastic bag. The incident occurred at their home near Whitehall.

Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to the home on the afternoon of April 24 after the boy's father requested a welfare check. He had received a disturbing text message from Kathryn Garaas. Upon arrival, Garaas told officers that the child was in his room, where they found him dead with a plastic bag over his head.
