Netflix releases 69 new movies and series this week

Netflix introduced 69 new titles this week, including 38 movies and 31 series, marking a busy period driven by podcasts and Thai comedy specials. Highlights include the thriller The Rip starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and the limited series Agatha Christie's Seven Dials. Popular content like People We Meet on Vacation and HIS & HERS dominated the US top 10 charts.

This week, from January 10 to 16, 2026, Netflix expanded its library with 69 fresh additions, comprising 38 movies and 31 series. The surge was fueled by partnerships bringing podcasts from The Ringer, such as The Bill Simmons Podcast, which launched episodes following the NFL playoffs, alongside a collection of Thai stand-up comedy specials by Udom Taephanich spanning 1995 to 2018.

Among the standout recommendations is The Rip, a Netflix Original action-crime-drama directed by Joe Carnahan. Featuring Teyana Taylor, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck, the film explores a twisty cop thriller narrative. Produced under Artists Equity's new profit model with Netflix, it earned a 3.5-star review, praised for reviving the dirty cop genre: "Damon & Affleck elevate the procedural elements while writer/director Joe Carnahan keeps the mystery flowing until the bullets fly."

Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson's 2021 coming-of-age romance set in 1973 San Fernando Valley, arrived via a licensing deal with MGM. The story follows young protagonists Gary Valentine and Alana Kane navigating first love, having previously garnered three Oscar nominations.

The week's major series debut is Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, a three-episode TV-14 mystery-thriller starring Mia McKenna-Bruce as Lady Bundle Brent, alongside Edward Bluemel and Martin Freeman. Despite mixed reviews on its ending, it received four stars for its performances and production: "Charming, witty, and bursting with contagious energy, it’s hard to imagine anyone else as Lady Bundle Brent."

Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter, a 2014 drama directed by David Zellner, also joined the lineup. It follows a Tokyo office worker inspired by the TV series Fargo to seek adventure in Minnesota using a fictional suitcase of money.

In the US daily top 10s, the rom-com People We Meet on Vacation led movies with 70 points, followed by Soul on Fire at 58. For series, HIS & HERS topped with 80 points, outpacing 11.22.63 at 69. Other notables include Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas and One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5.
