Nikola Roganovic chases father's goal record in handball

With one round left in the handball league, HK Malmö's Nikola Roganovic has scored 201 goals, chasing his father Zoran Roganovic's record of 203 from the 2008/2009 season. After a win against Västerås-Irsta, he hopes to reach the milestone in the final match. HK Malmö is tied on points with Kristianstad ahead of the last round.

HK Malmö's star Nikola Roganovic is on track to match his father Zoran Roganovic's impressive record in the handball league. In the 2008/2009 season, Zoran scored 203 goals over 26 rounds, a mark Nikola is approaching with 201 goals after 25 matches. "I need three more, I hope to achieve that in the last round," Nikola said after the team's 39-32 away win against Västerås-Irsta.

In that game, Nikola contributed six goals and an equal number of assists, though teammate Colin Tønnesen topped the scoring with ten hits. New A-national team player Hugo Stuivers also tallied six goals. "It's very fun to reach the milestone of 200 goals over 26 matches. But I thank my teammates for the passes," Nikola commented. He described the performance as stable and aimed at honing the attack for the playoffs: "We play good attacking handball and wanted to run our attacking game that we should have in the playoffs and sharpen the form. It felt good."

The season has returned to 26 rounds after several years of 32. HK Malmö received unexpected help in the title race when OV Helsingborg defeated a fatigued Kristianstad 33-32 following their European match. Ahead of the final round, the two teams share the lead on points, but Kristianstad holds a superior goal difference. To win the league, HK Malmö must beat Hallby and rely on Skövde to take points from Kristianstad.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Ystads IF risk missing the playoffs. Ystad, Önnered, and Karlskrona are tied on points, but only two teams advance.
