Östersund extends coach Holmqvist's contract for two seasons

Östersunds IK has renewed the contract of head coach Mikael Holmqvist for two more seasons after the team's best-ever finish in HockeyAllsvenskan. The club also extended assistant coach Stefan Gråhns on a 1+1 deal. Both coaches expressed enthusiasm about continuing their work with the team.

Östersunds IK finished 11th in the HockeyAllsvenskan regular season, marking the club's highest placement to date. Despite this achievement, they missed the playoffs by a narrow margin following nine losses in their final 10 games. The club has now decided to retain its coaching staff, extending Mikael Holmqvist's contract as head coach through two additional seasons. Holmqvist, 50, shared his excitement on the team's website, stating, “It feels incredibly honoring to continue with ÖIK for another two seasons. It’s a club where I truly thrive, filled with people passionate about development and always striving to improve. Building on what we’ve done together so far feels both exciting and inspiring.”
