Pokémon fan uses 58 consoles for rare Golduck hunt

Professor Rex has assembled 58 GameCube and Wii systems to hunt for an extremely rare Shiny Golduck in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. The setup targets a level 25 variant estimated at a one-in-nine-million encounter rate.

Professor Rex created the multi-console rig after completing a prior Chansey hunt in FireRed and LeafGreen. He selected Golduck because its underleveled Safari Zone spawn offers a long-term challenge with no cumulative progress toward success.

The Wavebird wireless controllers enable simultaneous input across all systems by sharing a single radio channel. Ruby and Sapphire run from a shared disc that continues playing without the physical media inserted.

Rex reports seeing 14 Shiny Psyducks during recent Safari Week events but none that evolved into the target Golduck. He describes the effort as a perpetual project chosen for its statistical difficulty rather than expectation of completion.

Any level 25 to 29 Shiny Golduck would satisfy the collector, though the odds remain steep at one in 1.8 million encounters.
