President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operations of PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest petrochemical plant located in Cilegon, Banten. This 4 billion USD investment project marks the company's fifth global facility from South Korea. The event underscores the government's commitment to supporting foreign investment in industry.
On Thursday (November 6, 2025), President Prabowo Subianto attended the inauguration event in Cilegon, Banten. In his speech, he stated, "I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, inaugurate PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia, located in Cilegon, Banten." The ceremony was marked by pressing a siren button and signing a cornerstone by the president, accompanied by relevant officials.
PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI) was built on 107.8 hectares of land with a 4 billion USD investment. The plant is designed to produce 1,000 kilotons per year (kTA) of ethylene, 520 kTA propylene, 350 kTA polypropylene, 140 kTA butadiene, and 400 kTA BTX (benzene/toluene/xylene). It is projected to absorb tens of thousands of workers and integrate into a global marketing network with annual sales of 56 billion USD in 2024.
This project is LCI's fifth global facility, following those in South Korea, Mexico, the United States, and Malaysia. Prior to the inauguration, the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara considered participation with a 35 percent stake through direct investment, not via state-owned enterprises. Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani conveyed this on October 31, 2025, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea. Of the total investment, the project equity amounts to about 1.7 billion USD.
Attendees included Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Head of the Government Communication Agency Angga Raka. The president emphasized that this inauguration is a proud achievement for Indonesia.
