R-Type Tactics returns in new Cosmos collection

R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos has launched, bringing the 2008 PSP strategy game and its sequel to new platforms with updated visuals and features.

The collection includes the original R-Type Tactics, the Japan-only sequel Operation Bitter Chocolate, and a new campaign set in deep space. Players command fleets of ships using signature weapon drones in turn-based combat across 2D planes.

Granzella, formed by former Irem staff, developed the title after several years of work. The update removes long load times from the PSP version and adds full voice overs, new character art, and uncompressed cutscenes.

The game features improved presentation while retaining its tense, punishing gameplay. A new campaign joins the remastered originals, though some content remains locked until the first game is completed.
