Raspberry Pi OS 2025-11-24 adds HiDPI scaling and Wayland updates

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has released Raspberry Pi OS 2025-11-24, featuring improvements for high-resolution displays and enhancements to the Wayland compositor. This update builds on Debian 13 Trixie and the Linux 6.12.47 kernel, supporting all Raspberry Pi models. Users can download it now or update existing installations via standard package tools.

Raspberry Pi OS 2025-11-24 introduces support for setting HiDPI scaling directly in the Screens control panel, along with HiDPI icons for the panel, file manager, and various applications. It updates the default Wayland compositor to Labwc 0.9.4 and adjusts the Openbox window appearance to match Labwc, while including the Alacarte menu editor.

Additional features include icons for the Wayland task switcher, theming support for Qt 6 applications, and improved font selection for Qt 5 apps. Practical enhancements allow closing volume sliders and calendar pop-ups by clicking their icons, hide Control Centre plugin dialogs from the taskbar, and display correct icons for external drives. The release removes PulseAudio support and updates Portuguese translations.

The OS ships with Mozilla Firefox 145 and Chromium 142.0.7444.162 as default browsers. Based on Debian 13 “Trixie” and powered by Linux kernel 6.12.47, it is available in 32-bit and 64-bit ARM flavors, with or without recommended applications. It supports all Raspberry Pi models, including 1A+, 1B+, 2B, 3B, 3B+, 3A+, 4B, 400, 500, CM1, CM3, CM3+, CM4, CM4S, Zero, Zero W, and Zero 2 W.

Existing users can update by running sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade in a terminal or using the graphical package updater. Downloads are available from the official Raspberry Pi website.
