Leksand has added Canadian defenseman Riley McCourt to its roster ahead of the upcoming SHL season. The 25-year-old joins on a one-year deal after playing in Germany last season.
McCourt most recently played for Augsburger Panther in the German DEL, where he recorded 22 points in 50 games. Earlier in his career he spent time in North American leagues including the OHL, ECHL and AHL. In the 2023/24 season he tallied 60 points in 82 games with Toledo Walleye in the ECHL. He also appeared in two games with Belleville Senators of the AHL. Sportchef Jesper Ollas highlighted McCourt's offensive skills. 'Riley is a very interesting player with qualities that we believe will fit well with us,' Ollas said. McCourt expressed enthusiasm for the move. 'I am very excited to come to Leksand and be part of the fight to win,' he said. 'I like environments where the demands are high.'
