School buses inspected at Meenambakkam RTO

A joint team inspected 102 school buses at the Meenambakkam Regional Transport Office on Saturday morning to verify safety standards. Officials also arranged free eye check-ups for drivers and first-aid training.

The inspection took place at the testing ground of the Meenambakkam RTO. It was headed by the Tambaram Revenue Divisional Officer and included the Chengalpattu District Educational Officer, the Regional Transport Officer, the Assistant Commissioner of Police from St. Thomas Mount, the local police inspector, and the Motor Vehicle Inspector.

Officials checked emergency exits, footsteps, vehicle height, reverse cameras, platform stability, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, speed governors, and GPS devices. Fitness certificates for 11 buses were cancelled due to deficiencies. Operators received seven days to fix the issues and return for re-inspection.

As part of the event, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital provided free eye check-ups for the drivers. The voluntary group ALERT conducted sessions on first-aid treatment.
