Silverburn displays Tesla Cybertruck amid Elon Musk controversy

A Tesla Cybertruck is on display at Scotland's Silverburn shopping centre from November 11 to 16, 2025, drawing both excitement and criticism. The futuristic electric vehicle, not available in the UK, has sparked debate due to owner Elon Musk's recent controversial statements. Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie has condemned the exhibition for promoting Musk's brand.

Glasgow EV enthusiasts have a chance to view the Tesla Cybertruck up close at Silverburn, Scotland’s leading retail and leisure destination. The display runs from Tuesday, November 11, to Sunday, November 16, 2025, in the centre's main atrium. The vehicle, a fully electric pickup, features sports car-like acceleration combined with heavy-duty truck towing power and a revolutionary design that has garnered global attention. It is beloved by celebrities including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Lady Gaga, though it is not available for sale in the UK and fails to meet UK and EU pedestrian safety regulations, making it not road legal.

David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn, expressed enthusiasm for the event. “We love providing an element of surprise and entertainment for our visitors during their trip to Silverburn. The Tesla Cybertruck exhibition is the perfect example of that, it’s exciting, experiential and unlike anything most people have seen up close,” he said in a statement shared by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

However, the display has faced backlash due to Elon Musk's recent actions. Last month, Musk described the UK Government as “tyrannical” on his platform Twitter/X and claimed civil war is “inevitable” in the UK. He also urged support for far-right figure Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson. Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie, from the Scottish Greens, criticised the exhibition sharply. “Elon Musk is a toxic individual who has used his global platform to spread racism, and political violence,” Harvie said. He added that Musk was “a core part of a Trump administration that has broken up families and communities, and caused immense harm to the world's poorest people, whilst undermining democracy and promoting conspiracy theories.” Harvie urged Silverburn to reconsider promoting Musk’s companies amid this damage. Silverburn has been approached for comment but has not responded publicly.
