Indonesia's Social Ministry is collaborating with the Migrant Worker Protection Ministry to equip Sekolah Rakyat students with skills for overseas employment. The initiative includes vocational training, language courses, and technical skills. Graduates will be guided based on their interests.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is preparing Sekolah Rakyat students to gain competencies and job readiness, particularly for those interested in becoming skilled and protected Indonesian migrant workers abroad. Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated this during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (November 3, 2025), accompanied by P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin.
The effort involves collaboration with the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI) to strengthen vocational education and pre-employment training for students. “We want to ensure that Sekolah Rakyat students not only receive formal education but also work skills. For those who want to work abroad, additional training will be provided, especially in language and technical skills,” said Saifullah Yusuf.
Currently, there are 166 Sekolah Rakyat locations across various regions, covering elementary, junior high, to high school levels or equivalent. About 6,700 students are pursuing high school education, with the first batch expected to graduate in 2028. Upon graduation, students will be directed according to their interests and talents: those wanting to pursue higher education will be guided to universities, while those seeking employment will receive strengthened vocational training.
Kemensos will also integrate special modules on migrant workers into the Sekolah Rakyat curriculum. “This is important so that students understand the processes and protections available for Indonesian migrant workers,” said Saifullah Yusuf. The collaboration aims to map students interested in overseas work for training and certification meeting international standards. “With P2MI's training and placement mapping, we can prepare students from an early stage to become skilled, competent, and highly competitive workers on the international stage,” he added.
