Sony unveils clip-on earbuds joining growing trend

Sony has introduced the LinkBuds Clip, a new clip-on earbud model priced at around ¥30,000. This open-style earbud sits outside the ear canal, enhancing situational awareness like rivals from Bose and Motorola. It is available immediately, prioritizing comfort for all-day wear.

Sony introduced its latest consumer earbuds, the LinkBuds Clip, on Wednesday, January 22. The clip-on design resembles recent products from Bose, Lenovo Group's Motorola unit, and Huawei Technologies. Priced at around ¥30,000 ($189), it is available immediately.

The LinkBuds Clip falls into the subcategory of open-style earbuds that sit outside the ear canal, promising better situational awareness than traditional buds. Brands claim this allows easy conversations with nearby people or hearing surroundings even with music at moderate volume. Some users find them more comfortable for extended wear.

While Sony has previously offered open-ear earphones, the LinkBuds Clip marks its first clip-on style. This launch joins a growing trend in earbuds focused on everyday convenience and awareness.
