Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach James Campen addressed the challenges of asking players to switch sides on the line. The comments come as the team experiments with several rookies and veterans in new roles during spring practices.
Campen spoke to reporters this week about the difficulty of flipping positions. He compared it to writing with the non-dominant hand, noting that coaches sometimes overlook the adjustment required. Troy Fautanu, who played left tackle at Washington, has moved to the right side for the Steelers and is adapting well, according to Campen. The coach called Fautanu’s versatility a big plus as the team evaluates options. Other changes include Gennings Dunker shifting from right tackle to left guard and Mason McCormick moving from right guard to left guard. Max Iheanachor, a right tackle from Arizona State, may also see time at left tackle. Campen said such moves are evaluated individually based on each player’s background and comfort level.
