Steelers Sign Robert Tonyan and Waive Chamon Metayer

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran tight end Robert Tonyan to a one-year contract on June 4. They also waived rookie undrafted free agent Chamon Metayer to create roster space.

The moves came during the team's mandatory minicamp. Tonyan, 32, reunited with quarterback Aaron Rodgers after spending several seasons together in Green Bay. He tried out with Pittsburgh over the past two days and impressed enough to earn the deal. Metayer had been signed by the Steelers right after the 2026 NFL Draft. The former Arizona State tight end recorded 38 receptions for 375 yards and four touchdowns in his final college season. Tonyan will compete for depth behind Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth. The Steelers' roster now stands at 91 players following the transactions.
