Sunn O))), the influential drone-metal duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, signed with Seattle-based Sub Pop last fall and has now announced its first album for the label. Titled simply Sunn O)), the record is set for release on April 3 and represents the band's first full-length effort since the 2019 releases Life Metal and Pyroclasts. The album was co-produced by O’Malley, Anderson, and Brad Wood.
A preview track, “Glory Black,” serves as the closer on the LP and is available now. Earlier this year, the band issued three additional new songs—“Eternity’s Pillars,” “Raise the Chalice,” and “Reverential”—on a limited 12-inch single. The full tracklist includes: 01 XXANN, 02 Does Anyone Hear Like Venom?, 03 Butch’s Guns, 04 Mindrolling, 05 Everett Moses, and 06 Glory Black.
To support the album, Sunn O))) will embark on a headlining tour of North America starting April 1 at The Van Buren in Phoenix, Arizona. The initial run concludes on April 19 at The Waiting Room in Omaha, Nebraska, with stops in cities including Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Columbus, Philadelphia, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Iowa City, and more. Additional dates are expected to be revealed soon, and tickets for the announced shows go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time.
This outing follows the band's pattern of immersive, cloak-clad performances that have defined their live reputation in the drone and experimental metal scenes.
