Ted Maher denies murder plot in New Mexico prison interview

Ted Maher, convicted in the 1999 arson deaths of billionaire Edmond Safra and nurse Vivian Torrente in Monaco, spoke from a New Mexico prison in March 2026 to deny plotting to kill his estranged wife Dr. Kim Lark.

Maher, also known as Jon Green, was convicted in March 2025 of solicitation to commit first-degree murder after prosecutors presented testimony from jail inmate Greg Markham. Markham claimed Maher detailed a plan to poison Lark with fentanyl-laced water or force her at gunpoint involving her search-and-rescue dogs. The jury deliberated for about an hour before returning the guilty verdict. Maher received a nine-year sentence and is scheduled for release in 2029 with time served credited.
