President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government's dedication to modernizing the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to combat insecurity. Speaking through his representative at a cadets' passing out parade in Kano, he emphasized improved training, equipment, and a people-centered approach to policing. At the Passing Out Parade of the Regular Course 7/2019 Cadets at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, on Saturday, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, addressed the gathering of senior officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and families.
Tinubu described the ceremony as 'a momentous milestone for our young cadets and a symbol of our collective progress in reinforcing the nation’s security architecture.' He praised the academy's advancements in infrastructure, academic standards, and training, noting its status as a fully accredited degree-awarding institution. Contributions from patriotic Nigerians were also commended for helping develop the academy into a hub for producing disciplined officers.
The president reiterated his administration's focus on building a modern, people-centered police force that upholds integrity, accountability, professionalism, and human rights. 'Our vision remains clear, to raise a Police Force that is well educated, well trained, and fully equipped to manage internal security with dignity and fairness,' he stated. He highlighted the academy's alignment with reforms promoting intelligence-driven and community-oriented policing to build public trust.
Akume, delivering Tinubu's message, urged the new cadets to maintain high standards of integrity, professionalism, and patriotism. 'You are not just law enforcers; you are guardians of our collective security and well-being. The nation expects you to serve with honour, fairness, and selfless dedication,' he said. The cadets were reminded to treat all Nigerians with dignity, uphold the rule of law, and demonstrate exemplary conduct.
Tinubu assured that the officers' welfare and professional growth would be prioritized. The government's strategy against insecurity extends beyond equipment to address root causes through economic expansion, social cohesion, and inclusive development.
