Tom Sachs adds handmade beads to Nike x Tom Sachs Bricolage General Purpose Shoes

Artist Tom Sachs has incorporated small, handmade red ceramic beads into his NikeCraft 'Bricolage' General Purpose Shoes—previously released in Summit White with accents—as a new exclusive detail for direct purchases from the NikeCraft website. These beads symbolize bricolage, are crafted in Sachs' New York studio, and became available standalone on April 14 for $19.99.

The NikeCraft 'Bricolage' General Purpose Shoes, launched April 8 exclusively via the Tom Sachs webstore (followed by wider release on April 14), now feature a discreet red ceramic bead hanging from the black laces—but only on pairs bought directly from NikeCraft. Sachs calls the bead 'a symbol of bricolage' and 'a sculpture,' continuing his decades-long use of similar handmade ceramic elements in projects like the 2017 Mars Yards 2 activation, Nikecraft Down shorts, lamp pulls, zipper pulls, AirPods attachments, and keychains. Each bead is uniquely made in his New York studio, stamped with Sachs' name and the ISRU logo from his 2020 initiative (now an app-based program promoting activities like reading and knot-tying to combat doomscrolling). ISRU completers gain access to exclusive Nike x Sachs items, though the focus is personal growth. 'The beads follow the same rules as the rest of my work... Each bead has its own identity as a sculpture,' Sachs said. This marks a new direction for the high-demand partnership, beyond NASA-inspired sneakers reselling for over $10,000. Standalone beads launched April 14 on NikeCraft for $19.99, with an April 24 activation at Salon 94 for ISRU participants to buy ID cards.
