Tommy Fleetwood completed the third round of the Open Championship one shot further behind the lead. The Southport native thrilled large crowds with his play at Royal Birkdale despite two late bogeys.
Fleetwood began the day four shots off the pace. He ended it five behind after 18 holes on Saturday.
Large crowds followed the local player throughout the round. Fans sang Everton songs and climbed dunes for a view of his shots.
Fleetwood acknowledged the support while trying to stay focused. "Walking up to every green, it’s like the most amazing ovation that you can imagine," he said.
The final round on Sunday offers Fleetwood a chance to close the gap in his hometown.
