Tony Santillan placed on 15-day injured list with oblique strain

The Cincinnati Reds have lost another key reliever to injury. Tony Santillan was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a strained left oblique. The move is retroactive to Tuesday.

Santillan, 29, last pitched Monday in a 2-1 loss to the Brewers. He allowed two runs in the 10th inning. An MRI on Wednesday confirmed the significant oblique injury.

Manager Terry Francona said the team will be without the right-hander for an extended period. "It came back that he had a pretty significant oblique injury, so we’re going to lose him for a while," Francona said.

Cincinnati’s bullpen is already missing Graham Ashcraft and closer Emilio Pagán. Ashcraft has been on the 60-day injured list since May 29 with a right UCL sprain, while Pagán has been out since May 6 with a left hamstring strain.

Right-handed rookie Zach McCambley was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to replace Santillan. Pagán pitched a scoreless inning for Louisville on Friday and is scheduled to pitch again Sunday.
