Trans Rights Readathon launches with eight new trans books

The Trans Rights Readathon began on March 17, running through March 31, the Trans Day of Visibility. The event encourages reading and promoting books by and about trans, nonbinary, 2Spirit, and gender-nonconforming people. Organizers recommend eight new 2026 releases to add to participants' lists.

The Trans Rights Readathon, which started on March 17 and ends on March 31 coinciding with Trans Day of Visibility, focuses on reading books written by or featuring trans, nonbinary, 2Spirit, and gender-nonconforming authors and characters. Beyond reading, participants are urged to create content about these books and support the trans community financially through local mutual aid, GoFundMe campaigns, or organizations like Point of Pride and Transgender Law Center. A StoryGraph challenge offers prompts, and the readathon website provides a sortable list of hundreds of trans books by genre, format, and age category. Instagram updates are also available from the organizers. It operates as a decentralized fundraiser to amplify trans voices and stories. To kick off the event, Book Riot highlighted eight new 2026 books suitable for the readathon's to-be-read lists, spanning genres like romance, memoir, graphic novels, YA fantasy, and sci-fi. These include A Lady for All Seasons by TJ Alexander, a queer trans Regency romance featuring a genderfluid main character in a lavender marriage scheme disrupted by a poet; As Old As Thyme by Alix Nicoud, about a bisexual trans woman brewing potions reuniting with her aro/ace trans childhood friend; Chicken Heart by Morgan Boecher, following a comedian processing grief and trans identity at a trans refuge commune; A Body Made Home: They Black Trans Love by K. Marshall Green, a memoir-mythography on a Black trans man's experiences with gender, race, and safety in America; This Wretched Beauty by Elle Grenier, a Remix series YA reimagining of Dorian Gray with a young trans protagonist exploring molly houses and drag; How (Not) to Conjure a Boyfriend by Jordon Greene, a YA witchy tale of a nonbinary kitchen witch's spell gone wrong; Queen of Faces by Petra Lord, a sapphic dark academia YA fantasy by a trans author with starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal; and Time-Tripping Over You by Brennon Lane, involving reluctant time travelers reliving pre-transition moments, with one character on the aro/ace spectrum.
