Asha Bhosle passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. She had been admitted the previous evening due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Her son Anand Bhosle said last respects could be paid at her residence on Monday at 11 am, with last rites at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.
President Droupadi Murmu said her demise created a huge void in music, adding, "Her legendary career as an iconic singer has defined an era of music in India." Prime Minister Narendra Modi described her as "one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known." Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also paid tributes. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recalled a recent interaction where she made him sing 'Abhi Na Jao Chhor Kar.'
