U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday the United States will charge a 20 percent fee on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump said in a social media post that the United States will serve as the "guardian" of the Strait of Hormuz and be reimbursed at a 20 percent rate on all cargo shipped through the waterway. He added that the process will begin "immediately."
Trump also announced the reinstatement of the naval blockade of Iranian ports. U.S. Central Command said its forces will resume blocking maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports at 4 p.m. Tuesday Washington time.
In a Fox News interview, Trump said the U.S. will "keep" and "run" the strait. Iran has continued to seek control over the strait, while the Trump administration has called it an international waterway.
