Analysts told US lawmakers that Washington needs to act immediately to slow China’s technological advances or risk falling behind. They outlined strategies including expanding the Silicon Shield to more sectors and cutting bureaucracy.
Analysts warned members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that China poses a systemic challenge to the United States across multiple fronts.
Piero Tozzi, senior China director at the America First Policy Institute, stated: “China is a systemic rival. It seeks to challenge and displace the United States as the guarantor for the American-led post-war order, and it does it on multiple fronts.”
Tozzi added that Beijing is working to set global technology standards in areas such as telecommunications and even human rights. Recommended steps include broadening the Silicon Shield beyond semiconductors to drones and other technologies, reducing US bureaucracy, investing in quantum computing, and competing directly on standards.
