Sixteen-year-old goaltender Vilmer Salén Forsberg is departing Södertälje SK to join the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League. The move makes him the club's first import goaltender.
Salén Forsberg was selected 62nd overall by Brantford in the OHL import draft. He said the decision to move to North America had been on his mind for some time.
"It has been something I have long thought about and wanted to do. It is mostly about wanting to test myself a bit more," he told Hockeysverige.se. "It is a big step, like stepping into a new world and testing yourself."
Before the OHL season begins, Salén Forsberg will represent Sweden at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton. The 2009-born prospect is viewed as one of the country's top goaltending talents in his age group.
After the season he could pursue college hockey, remain in the CHL or explore other options ahead of the 2026 NHL draft.
