Will Ferrell hosted Saturday Night Live for the sixth time during the show's season 51 finale on May 16. Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith interrupted the opening monologue, playing on their long noted resemblance.
As Ferrell was introduced, Smith appeared on stage first and declared he was hosting. Ferrell quickly emerged from behind him in matching attire and quipped, “You’re Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” The pair bantered briefly before Smith ceded the stage, allowing Ferrell to continue as planned. Paul McCartney later joined the monologue segment, pretending to mistake Ferrell for Smith before instructing the drummer to take his place behind the kit.
