Worker dies after fall from 22nd floor in Wadala

A 34-year-old carpenter fell to his death from the 22nd floor of an SRA building in Wadala, Mumbai, on July 6. Police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating possible negligence.

Dharmendra Prajapati, a native of Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh, had arrived in Mumbai three months earlier seeking work. He was employed as a carpenter and had been staying on the 22nd floor of the building for about a month.

The incident occurred on July 6 at a 22-storey Slum Rehabilitation Authority building in Wadala where terrace work was still underway. Residents discovered his body on the ground floor that morning.

Police traced the contractor in Vasai after delays caused by heavy rainfall and a power outage. They are now recording statements from Prajapati’s brother, who traveled from Uttar Pradesh, to determine whether to file an FIR.
