Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to reach 900 career goals, scoring in the second period during a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on November 5, 2025. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin met an 18-week-old black Labrador puppy named 'Ovi' in his honor on October 18. The naming celebrates Ovechkin's record-breaking 895th NHL goal and his 1,500th career game. The puppy will train to assist a disabled U.S. veteran or first responder through America’s VetDogs.
