The move follows a Constitutional Court ruling last Friday that declared a parliamentary rule unconstitutional and required the committee's establishment. Political parties must submit names for the committee by 22 May 2026.
The Western Cape High Court granted President Cyril Ramaphosa an interdict on 24 July 2026 to halt Parliament’s Section 89 impeachment committee from proceeding with a public inquiry into the Phala Phala matter.
